Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist. She started composing recently and has had several books of string music published which have been well received by critics. Two of her duets were selected for the 2024 ABRSM cello syllabus.
Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble in 2024 and the recording was chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio, and Video of the Day by Gramophone . The third movement – Us – has been played on Radio 3’s programmes Earlier and Classical Unwind. This month two movements of Clan were played the Holyrood Palace Investitures by the Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra..
Joanna’s music combines elements of both classical and folk and has been published by SJ Music, U.M.P. and Kevin Mayhew.
Joanna has completed two more string orchestral works – Interlude and Rebellion – and her song cycle – Moments of Freedom – has just been recorded by Angelina Dorlin-Barlow and Firoze Maden at the Royal College of Music. Her beginner cello and piano book, Wild Cello, is being published on April 25th.
