Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist. She started composing recently and has had several books of string music published which have been well received by critics. Two of her duets were selected for the 2024 ABRSM cello syllabus.

Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble  last year. On its release it was immediately chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio, Video of the Day by Gramophone  and played on Jools Holland’s Radio 3 programme Earlier.

Joanna’s music combines elements of both classical and folk and has been published by SJ Music, U.M.P. and she is a house composer at Kevin Mayhew.

Joanna has just completed two more string orchestral works and her cycle of five songs  Moments of Freedom  has just been recorded by Angelina Dorlin-Barlow and Firoze Maden at the Royal College of Music. Her beginner cello and piano book, Wild Cello, is being published in April.

Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was premiered by Her Ensemble at the Elgar Concert Hall in Birmingham in February 2024, and toured in Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle.The film of the third movement was chosen as Video of the Day at Gramophone:
