I felt honoured to have my first string orchestra work – Clan – premiered in Her Ensemble’s magnificent and imaginative programme of 21st century women composers last weekend. Her Ensemble are one of the most ground breaking groups in the classical music world at the moment – taking the lead in showing how concerts can genuinely be more relaxed, enjoyable and inclusive without being dumbed down.
Apart from Clan the programme included Errolyn Wallen’s wonderful Concerto Grosso, Dobrinka Tabakova’s beautifully expressive Dawn, Jessie Montgomery’s exciting Starburst and Dream Machine by the stunning composer Sacha Scott – all performed magically and with obvious enjoyment by Her Ensemble.
Here are a couple of clips of Clan from the dress rehearsal and a photo from after the show.
